May 10, 20193 Year-Round Activities to Try in Hood River
August 26, 2019It might not seem too obvious but Hood River is a city that knows and appreciates art and culture. It has a proud heritage that still has tremendous significance even to this day. The museums, the live performances, the beauty of the city and its surroundings are all things which add to Hood River’s love of culture and art. Take a trip to this spectacular city and the artist hidden in you will see a resurgence. The list below highlights excellent places to see the city’s art trove.
- Columbia Center for the Arts
Located in downtown Hood River, this center serves as a nurturing home for budding artists and students of the Columbia River Gorge. It gives them the opportunity to enlighten themselves on arts. They also get the opportunity to participate in visual and performing arts to hone their skills and learn from the best.
You can also go be a part of all this. Go and see both masters and students perform live. You, as part of the audience, can even engage with the artists and what the local community does. And age isn’t a factor, so if you’re on holiday with your family, the youngest kids can tag along too. Perhaps you’d rather enjoy the art from a distance and nothing more? There are fine art and craft galleries and numerous exhibitions as the same center, so you can opt to go there instead.
If some of these magnificent artworks capture your fancy, which will most likely be the case, you can purchase and take them back home.
- Big Art Walking Tour
A large part of Hood River’s identity can be attributed to the deep relationship between its artists and the members of the community. It’s this relationship which eventually evolved into the Big Art Walking Tour’.
Just as the name implies, this is an event with a focus on art. The prime focus here is on the sculptures and other artworks on loan from artists; some of the artworks are permanent. The artists are many, each with something unique to present, but a competitive process weeds out the best artists from the rest.
The winners are then allowed to display their works all over downtown Hood River for no more than 2 years. That’s where you come in. You can walk around in groups go on a tour of the numerous sculptures wherever they are being displayed.
Once you’re done with the sculptures, head over to a place called Spa Remedease and treat yourself to something that’s a little more different. It’s a spa in Hood River that has seen to both foreign and local customers since its inception.
At Spa Remedease, you always come first. So, whether you fancy a massage, pedicure, facial treatments and more, you always get exactly what you want. Our experts are only satisfied once you exit our doors happy and contended.
