  • Visit Steigerwald Lake

You can take a short drive out of the area to the Steigerwald Lake National Wildlife Refuge. It is home to countless local animals and is a refuge particularly for songbirds who tweet out beautiful melodies every morning. If you are a hiking enthusiast, you will enjoy the simple 1-mile hike that takes you right to the Columbia River from Steigerwald Lake.

  • Visit Dry Creek Falls

There may not be any thundering falls right off the Hood River, but just 30 miles outside of town you will find them. Dry Creek Falls is a favorite of the locals and is approximately 230 feet in height. The Pacific Crest Trail which is perfect even for beginners is what leads you right to the falls. It is about 2 miles long and takes you right to the peaceful scene that is Dry Creek Falls. 

  • Visit the Dalles Community

The Dalles Community originated during the Lewis and Clark expedition in the 1800s and you can find up to 70 historic buildings here. They are all perfectly preserved for viewing and there is even a saloon that was built in 1876 and can be seen right from the main street. You can enjoy a good menu of juicy steaks and delicious seafood amongst other things here. It’s a place the locals often visit for a good time too.
