The Sights In Hood River Will Blow Your Mind

Fall is a swell time for brewers to experiment in Hood River; beer is greatly appreciated in this county. Every year in September, the Hood River’s Hop Fest is held to test how brewers combine freshly harvested bitter hop, with local fruits like apricots, cherries, and peaches. This is inspired by the abundance of hop grown in the regions surrounding Hood River County.

The event attracts an average of forty breweries and over sixty different hop beers, food vendors and live music performance to entertain old and young alike due to its family-friendly nature.

If you are visiting for the event and decide to enjoy more than the beer festival, here is a line-up of activities you can enjoy for three days:

Day 1:

First, be sure to get a copy of the Breweries in the Gorge (BIG) map and passport. This is important for your visits to the breweries. Who knows! you can even get a souvenir in the form of a pint glass. After you get settled in, take a walk to your first stop: Hood River Waterfront Trail which is a 2-mile trail along the Columbia River that begins quite close to the Hood River Marina. The trail keeps going until it reaches “The Hook”, located very far away.

The breweries you will see on your first-day walk include the Pfriem Family Brewers, Double Mountain Brewery and Full Scale Brewery, all of which are downtown.

Day 2:

Today, you can visit the amazing town of Cascade Locks. It is just 30 miles from Hood River. Cascade Locks is an attractive town because it houses the Columbia Gorge Sternwheeler (an authentic triple-deck paddle wheeler), the iconic Bridge of the Gods, a gorgeous waterfront park and great restaurants.

Day 3:

This day is all about visiting the Hood River County Fruit Loops. Get a map for this adventure at the Hood River Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center (720 East Port Marina). The map offers suggested stops at more than 30 farms, wineries, orchards for you to personally select the newly and freshly harvested apples, pears and other varieties of fruits.
