A trail party to celebrate the completion of the 400-mile long Gorge Trail will be held today! The event will start at 1 pm and happen in a clearing along the edge of Clear Creek, a major tributary that empties into the Columbia River.
The trail runs from White Salmon, Washington, to just outside Portland and totals 400 miles. It is estimated that hundreds of hikers will participate in this trail party, which will be relatively informal. The trail has been completed in record time, thanks to the efforts of volunteers who have given up their weekends for months!
Hikers are urged to bring water and food if they need it. Also useful would be fully charged mobile phones, tools for digging cat hole latrines, sun protection, and layers of clothing.
The event will be hosted by the Gorge Trail Alliance and the Pacific Crest Trail Association. The organizers ask that hikers let them know via email if they would like to attend so that ground can be prepared and so that it is known how many people will come along.
