If you asked anyone to tell you what they knew of Hood River, the first things you’ll hear will be the city’s rolling hills, wineries, fruit orchards and rich history. Although this is all true, few words like this can never do justice to in describing what Hood River is really all about.

For one, have it at the back of your mind that the fruit orchards grow over a walloping 14,000-acre land. This alone has prompted locals to make predictions that Hood River will in due time become the motherlode of cider making in Oregon.

Now, what’s great is you can see and experience all these things in a matter of days. Nothing will escape you, as long as you make time for it. Written out below are 5 must-do things while on your vacation in Hood River.

  • Drive the Ever-Popular Fruit Loop

It seems as if both locals and foreigners can never get enough of the County Fruit Loop. That’s a testament to just how great an event it is. Driving around the forests, communities, farmlands and orchards might not sound like the most exciting of activities, but it’s quite the opposite; the Fruit Loop is one of Hood River’s most frequented and patronized attractions. There will be wines, fruits, alpacas, lavender, farm stands and more. Translation? You don’t want to miss it.

  • Tour the Majestic Waterfalls

Because of the lay of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic area, some of the region’s most amazing waterfalls are found there. The tallest of them is the Multnomah Falls, which rises to an astonishing 620 feet. When driving along the Columbia Gorge Highway, you can either stop at the waterfalls and admire them from a distance or you can go up close by hiking to them. Just be a little careful so you don’t slip into the water.

  • The Great Outdoors Await You

Hood River can brag about the many trails it has because they are some of the greatest in Oregon. Certain trails are geared towards experts while others will be more suited for beginners. You can go on them either by foot, on a horse or a bike-rentals are available too so you don’t have to worry about not owning one.

If your interest lies with newer sports, like sailing, fly-fishing or mountain biking, there are numerous guides, shops and clubs that can help you get to grips with all of them.

Now, after trying your hand at all of these, there’s one more thing you should try.
