We’re in a time when your immune system needs all the support that it can get. The coronavirus pandemic has taken the world by storm and has even grounded travel to our beloved Hood River. We at Spa Remedease want you to know that you have our support in these trying times. With governments and scientists all over the world doing their best to find a solution, this too shall soon pass. In the meantime, here are 8 foods that can help boost your immune system.

  • Almonds

Almonds are a great snack to have around the house to help with the boosting of your immune system. They are rich in Vitamin E which is great for maintaining your immune system as you get older. Unsalted almonds are the best and you can pair then with fruit or a healthy dessert.

  • Bell peppers

Bell peppers are a great immune-boosting food because they have high contents of Vitamin C. They are also rich in beta carotene which is good for our eyes and skin. Bell peppers freeze quite well and would be a great addition to your meal at this time.

  • Broccoli

Broccoli is rich in antioxidants, vitamins A, C and E. They are also rich in potassium and have lots of healthy fiber. It is none starchy, so it’s a great idea if you’re trying to lose or maintain your weight and it remains fine when frozen. You can use this highly nutritious vegetable in stir fry dishes, soups, omelets, quiche or just topped with some spices and steamed.

  • Citrus fruits

Citrus fruits like lemons, oranges, tangerines, limes and more are great when it comes to supporting our immune system and nourishing our bodies. They also contain lots of vitamins and minerals that help our body function properly.

  • Dark, leafy greens

Dark leafy greens like spinach and kale are great sources of beta carotene which is associated with the increase of disease-fighting cells in the body. They are also associated with reducing inflammation and it is qualities like these and more that make them great for boosting your immunity.

  • Garlic

Garlic is known to contain compounds that naturally act to destroy bacteria and infection and consuming garlic has been linked to reduced risks of becoming sick and staying ill. Getting garlic into your eating regimen is quite easy and you should consider doing so now.

  • Red peppers

Red peppers are known to contain twice as much vitamin C as citrus fruits and roasted peppers are very versatile. You can use them in red pepper soup, fold them into your omelets, as a seasoning for chicken or steak and to top pizza or flatbread.
